Background
What is Holland Lake? It is a pristine 400 acre lake, nestled at the base of the Swan Mountains, and surrounded by thousands of acres of national forest land. The lake, and its facilities, are part of the heritage, culture and community of the Swan Valley, and is popular with locals and tourists alike.

The lake and its surrounding natural ecosystem, contain all species of native wildlife and plant life, including deer, elk, black and grizzly bears and some rare or endangered species.

Our position
Stewards of the Swan Valley opposes the corporate expansion of Holland Lake Lodge.
In 2021, the Flathead National Forest entertained proposals to greatly expand the lodge and its facilities, increasing the footprint by 50%, and expanding the capacity to over 150 visitors at a time, as well as cutting a large number of trees, modifying the historic lodge, and turning the historical lodge and facility into a corporate getaway for wealthy visitors. The initial proposal was submitted in secret, with no community input, and was on a path for an exemption from the normal environmental, safety and cultural impacts until the Swan Valley community, and other regional stakeholders, protested and had it reconsidered. A modified, but still large, proposal was resubmitted and is under consideration by the Forest Service.

Based on community input, scientific studies, and regional experts, such an expansion will pose a significant threat to fragile wildlife and plant species, threaten the lake and the Swan River drainage, and disrupt the quiet community that is Condon and the Swan Valley.
